It's possible to switch Parallax View in JCS to higher resolution | [q]2015-03-06 07:47

I'm not sure if there ever was anyone who really wanted to switch parallax view to another resolution while making levels. Of course the standard settings are (none), 320x240, 400x300, 512x384, and 640x480. Obviously these basically just reflect some of JJ2's window resolutions.

But I was actually able to switch into 800x600 resolution. It's kind of annoying how to do this though. First you have to download a hex editor, which for starters is a great way to accidentally ruin any file on your PC. Anyway, just grow some balls and do it. This is also the way to edit JJ2 version data, if you switch the version number from 1.22 or 1.23 or 1.24 to 1.25 or 1.26 or 1.27 it will actually pretend to be that version of JJ2, which apparently just means you can't join any servers without that version number (like it used to be for 1.23 and 1.24, and still is for 1.20 and any other version). Also you get a new registry folder which is where the fur color, player name, server name data are stored, as well as a few basic settings. (That's why you can have separate colors for 1.23 and 1.24. Theoretically you can also have separate colors for 1.25, you just have to make the version number in hex editing.)

Anyway, that's probably not a useful idea, since changing your version number to 1.25 accomplishes nothing, or maybe accomplishes about as much as collecting drawings of fishes. This is a screenshot of what I'm talking about:

This is normal JCS parallax view 640x480 resolution:

The difference is pretty stunning!

So, how to maek?

Just open JazzCreationistNation.exe with a hex editor, hit Ctrl+F to look up a text string, and search for "640" or "480" I guess. Then alter it to "800x600" and you would probably get the exact same result as shown in this screenshot.

Well, Idk if or how this would actually be meaningful, like I said. I literally just came up with this idea 5-10 minutes ago, and as soon as I saw what it did, decided to make a post about it. Because making version number 1.25 is ridiculously cliche, has been done before and it's pointless, but this might have some use? Hopefully emo

Try it, apparently since I saved this file in Windows 8.1 Pro, it might not run in older editions of Windows, but this file does work at least on my PC.

(This is JCS with higher resolution parallax view.)

I'm willing to bet that it runs on earlier versions of Windows even if you made changes to it in a hex editor on win 8.1 emo
