JJnet Duel Tournament Starts! 2019-09-30 21:22 | Vivando
JJnet Duel Tournament v5.0 has now officially started. The organizers are me and Lahm.

A total of 20 players signed up for the tournament. This means that the first stage of the tournament will be a group stage, where the players are divided into 4 groups of 5 players. From each group, 4 players advance to the next stage, the final stage which features double elimination. The players have been divided into different groups by random, but also based on the clan they signed up with, so that players of the same clan went into different groups (for the most part).

In the group stage, you play against each opponent in your group once. You can play the opponents in any order.

You can view the groups, mappool and detailed rules here (open full description in the tournament page to see all the rules and mappool).

To submit your matches, you can either report your matches in Challonge (if you have a Challonge account) or report them to me or Lahm. Remember to take screenshots and submit them with your reports.

The most important rules however are related to the match settings, vetoes and map picks:

Each player may only pick a certain map 2 times during the group stage and 2 times during the elimination stage. So when a player advances to the elimination stage, the previous map picks do not count anymore and the player can again pick the map 2 times during the elimination stage.

Each player is entitled to 2 vetoes in each stage. The players need to announce their vetoes (if any) either in the comment section of this newspost or send a private message to me or Lahm. The players need to announce their vetoes before their first match and cannot add/change them later, until the elimination stage begins. Before playing their first match in the elimination stage, players are allowed to change/add their vetoes.

The match settings are as follows for the group stage (the rest are as default set by the game):

/autostop on
/timelimit 10
/maxscore 5
/overtime off
/allowmouseaim off

Finally, the deadline for playing ALL your group stage matches is October 20th at 20:59 GMT so you have a little less than 3 weeks for getting your duels played.

Good luck and have fun dueling!

JJNet presents: JJNet Season 16 CTF Level Making Contest! (Psst. JJnet Duel Tournament v5.0 announced below this newspost.) 2019-09-23 18:17 | Vivando
It has been now one year since the last JJnet level contest ended. Thus, the rise of interest has slowly increased towards yet another contest. Well, we just happen to be here to present you another level (map) contest for the ladder mappool for season 16!

The mappool got a big bunch of new (and old) maps for the last season. However, there is still only a limited number of older maps that are suitable for the ladder mappool, which is why we are looking for new, fresh maps as well. In this contest the best three maps (as long as there are three maps that meet our quality-standards) as selected by the admins will be added to the mappool for the next season.

What are we looking for especially? Mostly the same things as in most level making contests.

These are the rules:
-We are looking for CTF levels
-Only new levels will be accepted. Edits of existing levels will not. If a level was started/finished before this contest began, it can however be entered if it was never officially published before.
-Only one entry per person. Collaborations are allowed, but they will count as a whole entry for each collaborator. This is meant to encourage people to focus all their effort on one level, rather than rush many. Quality over quantity.
-As long as the contest stays open, you are allowed to edit/fix/remake your entry as much as you want even after you have submitted it.
-Upload your level to Jazz2Online once you are finished, in order to make it easily available to everyone. Be sure to announce that its your entry for this contest either here, in the title or description.
-If there are minor improvements that you wish to make to the level after the contest has ended, you may do so upon the JJnet crew's approval. The applied changes need to be reported clearly.

Aside from the rules, there are some additional guidelines (if you don’t follow them you’re not likely to get very far):
-Important! Try to keep your level optimal in performance so that the FPS-rate shouldn't drop too much from the usual when playing the level with slower computers. Avoid excessive graphics or other features that may have an impact on this.
-The level should be playable in both 2on2 and 3on3 (It may be also accepted as a 3v3 only level if it is decent otherwise)
-The main focus should be on the gameplay, but the visual side shouldn't be ignored. Most importantly the level should look nice to the eye and there should be no distracting visual decorations.
-The level should be balanced. You do not need to make the level 100% symmetrical, but try to keep no team significantly advantaged over the other.
-All characters should be playable in the level (Lori too.) Flow differences between characters do not matter, but all characters should be able to reach all objects and areas without the need to use tricks like walljumps.
-Try to make the level spacious enough so that there is room for players to dodge bullets, but not too open, as that will increase the "lag-factor", e.g. lots of long linear paths where players usually get "airhit" from afar (especially if the level contains a lot of seekers).
-Try to balance the amount of open and closed areas. Don't make it too easy to camp in the level. Try to design base areas with care.
-Originality is a nice bonus, but we are not looking for full gimmick-levels. Use of AngelScript is allowed, but again, try to not draw the gameplay too far from classic CTF.

You have until October 20th 17:00 GMT to finish and upload your entry, which is roughly 4 weeks from now. A team of judges will be selected to pick the winning maps shortly after the contest finishes. The maps will be added to the ladder mappool immediately after.

JJnet Duel Tournament v5.0 2019-09-22 18:00 | Vivando
Have you been wondering whether the JJnet Duel Tournament is ever going to return? Well, it is, right about now. The JJnet crew presents you with the 5th edition of JJnet Duel Tournament!

To sign up for the tournament, visit here (Challonge). You will need to create an account in Challonge in order to sign up (if you do not have one already). If you do not wish to create an account, you can alternatively send me a PM here or in Discord to sign up. The sign ups will close by next Sunday, 29th September at 17:00 GMT.

Below is a list of Questions & Answers about the upcoming tournament.

So what's in it for this time?

By participating in the tournament and performing well, you can actually have an impact on the clan ranking for the upcoming ladder season 16. This time, the clans of the top-4 ranked players will be rewarded with a fixed amount of ladder points for the next ladder season. Other participating clans will be rewarded with a small amount of ladder points for participation as well.

The ladder maximum points will be doubled to 200 for the next season. However, the amount of ladder points rewarded for ladder match wins will also increase from 2 to 3. The points rewarded to clans from the duel tournament come as follows:

1st place - 50 points
2nd place - 30 points
3rd place - 20 points
4th place - 10 points
Other participating clans - 5 points (requires at least 1 non-forfeited match played by any participating player of the clan)

Doesn't that mean that one clan can gain a massive point boost by having only their players ranked as top-4?

Of course, to make it fair and balanced, the point rewards will not stack. This means that each clan can gain the point bonus only once, based on their highest ranked player. For example, if clan A has 2 of its players ranked as 1st and 2nd when the tournament finishes, the clan will gain only the 50 points as reward. Then, the 2nd place prize is handed to the clan of the player ranked 3rd, etc. In case multiple clans are tied for example for the 5th place, the tied clans will each receive the whole point bonus.

What if a player changes clan in the middle of the tournament? Which clan gets rewarded for his/her final position?

Only the clan which the player was in at the time of signing up will be rewarded.

Are clanless players allowed to participate?

Yes they are. They just won't be rewarding any clan and their ranking will be ignored when rewarding clans. They're still welcome to play for the honors though. If the player joins a clan later during the tournament, no clan will still be rewarded. However, to be able to award the players personally, each participating player should at least have a recognizable JJnet account to be eligible to participate.

What if the next ladder season finishes before duel tournament?

Naturally, many duel tournaments always struggle with players having problems with scheduling their matches. To ensure the tournament finishes in time for the point rewards to have full effect on the season, the tournament will feature strict deadlines and forfeits will most probably happen to keep it going smoothly.

How is the format going to be? CTF or battle? What about the mappool?

The tournament structure will depend on the amount of signed up players. The tournament requires at least 8 signed up players by minimum to start. The final stage of the tournament will be a double elimination most probably. If an uneven (considering the tournament tree) or otherwise large amount of players sign up, the tournament will start with a group stage (Round Robin).

The game mode will be CTF.

The mappool will likely consist of maps that are in the current 2v2+ mappool with a few exceptions.

The detailed rules and settings for the matches themselves will follow up later. If your question wasn't answered here yet, feel free to ask it in the comments section below.

Final Matches And Vetoes! 2019-09-15 21:48 | Vivando
All the off-season clanwars have now been played. Like previous seasons, the top 2 clans ([GpW] and -t3>) are invited to participate in the Grand Final, meanwhile [CDF] and CX are invited to participate in the bronze final. Should one of the clans not accept the invitation, e.g. from top 2 clans, the clan ranked 3rd will be invited to the Grand Final and so on.

Should the current top 4 clans sign up, CX and -t3> are entitled to pick 1 extra veto (5 total) against their opponents, due to having reached a higher ranking. All clans are allowed to change two (2) of their previous vetoes. This time all vetoes can be set on any maps of any size (e.g. 5 vetoes on 2v2+ maps)

Clan leaders (or clan delegates approved by their clan leaders), please confirm in a comment here whether your clan will be participating. Please do so by September 18th, 22:00 GMT. Also ANNOUNCE YOUR VETOES HERE BEFORE THE SIGN UPS CLOSE (if you have an extra veto and/or wish to change your previous ones). Do not try to use the Edit veto-tab on your clan's page, because it does not yet support veto changing for final matches. If you do not announce vetoes here, your current vetoes apply for you.

UPDATE: CX didn't confirm within the given time, thus CC is invited and accepted for the Bronze Final against [CDF].

This means that [CDF] gains one extra veto for their final match for having reached a higher ranking than CC.

For both CC and [CDF]: Please announce your extra vetoes/veto changes here (if any) by this Saturday the 21st at 21:00 GMT.

Ladder Fro$en! 2019-09-06 17:00 | Vivando
[GpW] has crossed the magical limit of 100 ladder points, thus no more ladder matches can be submitted. The clanwars CX vs -t3> and -t3> vs. [GpW] still need to be played before the season finals may commence.

Additionally, CDF has challenged CC for a clanwar, which is waiting to be accepted or refused.

Stay tuned!

Rule Update 2019-08-11 11:20 | Vivando
The JJnet Council has decided the following rule update regarding rules for the final matches:

§6.2.1 All clans will be allowed to change TWO (2) of their previous veto levels without restrictions for the final matches. Without restrictions meaning that the new vetoes may be issued on maps of any size, so the clan may have e.g. 4 vetoes on 2v2+ maps or 4 vetoes on 3v3+ maps, etc. Please note that this opportunity does not stack with the opportunities gained during the season (which must be used before the ladder is frozen). Any unused vetoes may still be issued for the final matches.

Also, no new maps will be added to the mappool this season anymore.

Ladder Season 15 Begins! 2019-07-27 17:00 | Vivando
Since the rules, mappool and a few site features have been updated, we are now ready to start the new season! Take note, that up to 2 3v3+ maps may still be added into the mappool in the near future and some tweakings might be made to the rules regarding final matches.

Like last season, this season lasts until a clan hits 100 ladder points. With that said, it is now time to issue:

/glhf

New Mappool And Rule Changes 2019-07-26 19:13 | Vivando
The new season for ladder is almost ready to start. But hang on, the new JJnet council consisting of one representative from each active clan (CC, CDF, CX, GpW and -t3>) has come to its conclusion of new mappool and rules for the upcoming season.

This time the mappool's size grows majorly, since the new mappool adds a total of 10-12 new or previously included maps, while no maps are removed. This is due to wide demand of adding more variety into the mappool, especially for 2v2 ladder matches. There are still 2 (3v3+ only) maps whose fate is still pending from the council and they will be added shortly after the season begins if they are to be approved.

Meanwhile, here is the initial mappool that will be most likely applied when the season starts. Please note that there are also two existing levels which received updates as a new version and their newest version is now the default version to use in ladder (Hall of The Mountain King v2 and Trigelateral v4).

Of course the new larger mappool means adjustments need to be made to the available vetoes per clan to keep it balanced. Here are some changes to the rules regarding vetoes and other "rules" which required formalizing:

§6: Final/Bronze match rules

§6.2 A clan that has reached a higher ranking during the season than its opponent, has the privilege of picking map order, team color order on every map (can choose team colors on overtime round as well) and is entitled to issue 1 extra veto which may be used on a map of any size.

§6.2.1 All clans will be allowed to change ALL of their previous veto levels for the final matches.

§1.4 Vetoes

§1.4.1 Every clan may veto up to 2 2v2/3v3+ maps and up to 2 3v3+ only maps since the beginning of the season (up to 4 maps in total). When a veto has been cast, it is permanent until the start of the next season or until the clan changes it after reaching a milestone in ladder points. At milestones of 25%, 50% and 75% of the max ladder points a clan receives 1 opportunity to change ONE (1) of their vetos, these opportunities can be used at any time during the season until the playoffs have been announced.

§1.4.2 Clans may only gain each opportunity once, so if e.g. a clan falls back in points after reaching 50% max points and after already using its opportunity, it cannot reuse the opportunity.

§1.4.3 If a clan uses only a part of its allowed vetoes from the start and wishes to add unused vetoes later, they'll have to contact an admin to change their veto field.

§1.4.4 The vetoed level names may be shortened (e.g. Happy Semiconductor CTF as Semi), but they must be distinguishable as real levels.

§1.4.5 Any illegal vetoes (e.g. too many maps, too many maps of the same size or bad level names) will be modified by the admins as they see fit.

§4: The amount of rounds, map choices and colour choices (clanwar rules)

§4.3.2.2.2 The previously vetoed maps by both clans are applied to the procedure from the start.

§4.3.2.2.3 The challenging clan casts the first veto (or the lower ranked clan in case of a bronze/final match).
