Anubis: in important games, we use Skype. I'm not saying TS is ****, but I'm more used to TC, and mostly, in friendly games, not everybody was using TS. Had to also type and also talk, which was kind of confusing. Imo, no problem with the TS server, I got skype and it doesn't lag me or make my fps drop.
The people who I've voicechatted with don't tend to yell the same command over again. It's the other way around for me, spamming H is more annoying than repeatedly asking for it over voicechat because I don't have to find a place to hide to to say it. Okay, someone should make a thread...really this convo about TC vs TS has drove us off about what the comments are really for.
Something new??? Haven't you read the posts before? Some people probably think its new because CC introduced TS to JJ2, but some have already been using voicechat for years. Wether its better is just the question how good one functions with it. I myself find it easier to quickly type a CTF code than to have to think about what to say and keep my head on the game at the same time.
People probably thought the same when CTF codes first came out. "Why do we need to play with this? It ruins the game, it's not needed, blah blah." It's hard to accept something new, but just admit it instead of saying that TC > TS, while it's clear that TS helps way more. Kenny, I hope you won't decide to use TC instead of TS in the clanwar, it will only be to your disadvantage.
Off-topic yet somewhat related to the comments: Despite that I don't have teamspeak, it's CC's server, so I don't see much of a problem with it if they don't want non-CCers to come over. As I've heard the hoster pays for the server too. By the way I use skype for voicechat. Teamchat is a good skill to have too, because not everyone has a mic and isn't as laggy. Also it takes less time to prepare using. But the problem I find with teamchat is that it's hard for me to tell orders or h/s/c/etc without getting chathit or chatkilled, or just simply losing control of the level. It's also much easier to make errors and spill out TC by accident. I'm actually a decent typist but I still have difficulties with teamchat. Voicechat makes it far easier to tell orders and plan strategies.
I and Yasco used it years ago in 2v2s. That said, when Gry came up with the idea of using it for CC, I couldn't use it cause I had a crappy laptop in Ireland. As soon as my laptop changed however, we started training with it.
CC thx for understanding. I just found out late when the trip will be, and ive already paid for it. Hf at the CW. And btw, teamspeak is imo for fun, no serious games could be played like that. Just rarely when 3-4 ppl were speaking, from which 3 from the same team. Also, skype got the conference button, and it doesnt lag me at all. I get same ms, just that my fps drops by 10-15, which isnt such a disaster. GL cc at the clanwar, and with TS you're right. You are paying for the server, so you can do whatever you want with it, because it's like exploiting your money. If they want other TS server, they can pay for it, but the thing was that you've let them use it so much time and have such a big fun, plus that almost nobody would pay real money for a game. At least i wouldnt xD.
I really wonder what gave everyone the idea that this was a Teamspeak Server made for the JJ2 community?
I made this Teamspeak server for use by CC and its friends. We decided there were too many people we hardly know on there, so we took steps to correct that problem.
Friends of us are still able to join if they want to, however we decide who we grant that privilege and who we dont grant that privilege.
Once again I made this Server for CC and CC alone, we decide what we do with it and when we do it.
You dont like it? Get your own server.
Edit: there is also people in the names database that we have absolutely no clue about who they are or if they even play JJ2. Again i didnt make this server to be public, so protection against this stuff was needed!
First of all, let me say that what Faw says is correct. EvilD is hosting the TS server for CC and he is in no way obliged to let people from outside use his server if he doesn't want to. Like Gry said, this was a privilege, not a right.
Of course, I also understand that people had a good time just chatting with us CCers and fellow JJ2ers and it would be a shame to take that opportunity away.
To solve this, I have talked with EvilD and he agreed to make a new usergroup (called Friends) for non-CCers who wish to hang out with us. "Friends" can use the TS server in the same as normal CCers, except they can of course not enter any of the the CC-only subchannels. Simply log on to TS channel, notify me, and if you have a clean slate - flaming Vegito or other CCers won't help - I will add you to the group.
Considering nobody seems to have taken my rights yet, I have made them leave. Either way, TC, TS, whatever. Teamchat is fun but now that theres teamspeak I am too lazy. Plus, teamspeak allows you to give more advanced orders.
If a neutral person would host a TS server, sure, why not.
I am not sure why, but the actual point (GpW Vs CC) has totally disappeared. Even when there was news that we changed the date. Fun :p.
The thing that bothers me is how none of you who praise TS never heard of it until the admins let you know about it. Until then everyone was practicing to type CTF codes faster, and it actually helped in something else than JJ2. Now you all spam "naaah,TC sux,all hail TS". What's so lame about TC now? If we could have been using it for 12,almost 13 years (I suppose the teamchat was there back then),why not use it now? It's the real skill, not just yelling at your teammate on teamspeak. I don't care if typing a CTF code takes like, less than 0,5 seconds of my time. I consider it as a part of the game, and you should too.
Faw is right, is CC the whole jj2 community? Get a life when you think that. To be honest, TS wasn't found by EvilD. and besides that, CC helps people too in jj2. don't be jealous if you don't have TS. You always have Skype, xFire or MSN voice chat (which only helps in 2v2 tough), and why is everything what CC does bad? Make up your own ideas and don't tell the rest, instead of being lazy to search for helping programms. Calling CC cheaters or such won't solve your own problem.
In short, CC's teamspeak server, with our rules. Evild's server and his bandwith, his decision ( without him there wouldn't be such thing possible at all). It doesn't mean CCers agree with his decision, he felt he created the server for CC only and not for the whole jj2 commnunity. He has a point there, obviously, you can't blame him for that. I know some people wouldn't mind but hell we are not evild :p.
As you see, your personal feeling for the TS server and how great it was doesn't apply here.
I understand Urbs, let's say it doesn't quite make you feel welcome anymore.
Either way, I am stepping back as a jj.net admin, it'll be better that way. I don't want to have all the ladder bs over me anymore, and me getting flamed for closing the TS server didn't help.
Not to mention I am not any useful here to be honest (not a coder, others can do what I did and probably are better at it). I don't always tend to stay objective either cause sometimes my emotions take over. It's best to not be involved with everything anymore then, easier to stay objective.
So that means I am NOT a CC leader (which some people tend to forget), and NOT involved with the ladder anymore. That might help cool things down a bit
Well I like voicechat, cuz my typing isn't fast enough IMO and because it allows you to use more elaborate tactics (although less so than some people imagine).
I liked using TS because a lot of us were online cracking jokes about *****'s and such. That's gone now I suppose. But then again nothing lasts forever and it's not like this was not to be expected, Gry said in the beginning the idea was to get us hooked on TS and then take it away.
It's why we use Skype, sometimes in combination with TC, as a lot of our members don't have mic's or don't have mic's that function good enough.
lot of people probably have issues with voicechat due to parent/roommate problems and because they might be shy. In my experience it does't pay to be shy, you will most likely hear only friendly and encouraging voices on the other end of the line, so no need for being shy
Anyway was nice while it lasted...
And yes I know we can still join TS if there is an ECC member present, but I really don't intend to chat "with permission". Let's face it, that sends a message of superiority. Which is all fine and swell, but I for one am not playing that game
This **** right here be about pryde and I ain't swallowing mine.
§7 There must be atleast two rounds played. Two rounds is the default case. If you want to play more rounds, remember to save proof that both clans agreed on this. If the CW ends in a tie, there soulde be a final round played.
