Im not interested wether you like CTF or TB more, cuz I know the answer to that.
I just want to know wether you would play if a TB tourney would be organised.

Out of all the gamemodes, why Team Battle?
TB is little played for a reason: it's a boring gamemode without any strategic gameplay involved. There's essentially no teamplay at all, the winning strategy for each player would be to get powerups and carrots for themselves all the time, so what's the point of a nation/clan-based tourney? One player could just DD all the time while the other would do all the kills.
If what you're looking for is a change from CTF, I'd be in for any other unusual gamemode (FR, JB, DOM or even DCTF might be interesting), maybe even in combination with some underused JJ2+ features such as noblink, frustration, maxhealth etc.
I'm certainly not going to play TB, as it would essentially be a "skill-only" tournament.

Agreed. Though I would play TB, I'd rather like a DOM or JB tournament.

People who don't want to play give fun as the most important argument.
It is a personal definition, so just keep it for yourself.
Also, TB has tactics, if you don't realize that, then thats why CDF beats you.

No Toni, CTF is about camping more imo. Way more.. TB maps aren't that campy and you need to hog the powerups and you really need tactics. Someone goes DD while the one better at kills go kill, the other one defends powerups for him/her and other things. I'd like to play in one, but I don't think one will be organised..

I never claimed that TB would lack tactics, or that it wouldn't be fun to play. CDF beats me because I fail at TB due to the extreme reliance on skills that you need to have to play TB well, as I stated earlier. It can be a rather fun gamemode when played casually on open servers, but a TB tournament with more skilled players just makes no sense to me, and getting pwned only due to my skills being inferior to my enemy's is more frustrating than fun.
While CTF is indeed mainly about camping near the bases, TB lacks strategic play, and cooperation is unnecessary if one of the players is sufficiently good.

Double post, but hah. You contradict yourself.
Not really... With teamwork you can dominate and hog all the powerups and carrots in TB. I guess you have to try it to understand it. That's part of the strategy... In several levels you can even trap enemies in choke points and kill them really easily by trapping them with two people (see olcbat02), provided they're skilled enough to not get hit too. I'd suggest trying a serious TB 2v2 game

Why would anyone want a tournament for bad players?

@Rag:
I am not contradicting myself, it's just you confusing my definitions of tactics and strategy. From what I have heard so far, tactics are level-specific actions and reactions depending on the location in the level and the current situation, which is well possible in TB (such as the trapping you mentioned), while strategic play is a playing style that isn't centered as much on raw skills but rather on predicting the enemy, getting one's timing right with pickups etc. In most gamemodes, the entirely strategic style I play works well, but in the serious 2v2 TB matches I played during my time in CoTD, experience showed that simply the most skilled players win, and strategy is of little to no use when you lack skills, while in CTF it can be offset.
Also, double post? Neither you or me seemed to post twice in a row.
@cooba:
I was comparing a TB tourney to a public, open server that hosts TB. Public servers generally have less skilled players in them, while mostly better players sign up for tourneys. I should have made that more clear in my post.

I double posted and deleted and wasn't bothered to edit! Sorry~
Also, I see what you mean.
Disagree, but oh well =P
CTF has that luck/lag aspect to it which annoys me, battle doesn't.

It doesn't only affect CTF, airhits, 3hks and stuff like that are common over all gamemodes. Besides, you can't expect perfect lag handling from a 1998 game, network connections were far slower back then and lots of rewriting would be required to fix all the lag-related issues in JJ2.
Also, I see why you're disagreeing with me, as I'm probably the only player who has absolutely zero skills and plays entirely strategic. I have a hard time getting the simplest jumps right, keep pressing the wrong keys at times, often miss carrots or PUs so the enemy steals them; and don't even get me started on RF climbing.

No that's not the point I was making mate! Basically, 3hks/airhits/whatever are so much more extreme in CTF, since you HAVE to time things, you HAVE to kill the enemy when they're 1 and your partner is S, you have to do a lot of things due to timing. TB doesn't have that aspect, so you can try to abuse lag if you have it by taking your time and playing a bit more defensively, so IMO, yes lag is present and does affect TB, but not as much.

@MS:
I wasn't present at either of those ladder matches, so I can't really judge them. To me, it looks like some maps were better known than others to the players of the teams who played.
The TB games I played involved absolutely no teamwork at all. I've been playing with Treylina, SE, and some other former CoTD; it always felt the same way, I couldn't really do anything while my teammate killed the enemies. Years ago, when I played a few TB ladders with my KY clanmates, I would basically camp all the time since we played on maps like battle1/battle3, which was basically a cheap way of winning the matches without any skills or strategy involved.
@Rag:
You're right. But timing, along with prediction, are my only qualities as a JJ2 player, so Team Battle is a problematic gamemode for me since I can't make much use of these, especially due to my absence of skills. Lag in CTF does upset me too, which is why I suggested the other gamemodes in my first post, a change from CTF would indeed be nice.

Well, maybe. My internet is being really laggy today (it's being even slower than a dial-up connection!) and I would've replied earlier. I'll make up my mind later.
You can play this game online???
