Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is falling into oblivion. More and more players are getting inactive, we need new community, but with this time games there's like nobody going to play this old school game. I miss good old times.

There can't be a new community, it's either this one or none. Its up to players like you to keep it active, just like we did at your age.

Is JJ2 falling into Skyrim too?

If you're expecting young players to play this, you might have a hard time since todays kids are more interested in Mass effect,Skyrim,AC and D3.

This game will be played in next 3-6 years (maybe less), but we CAN'T keep it active. I play JJ2 only in free moments, I am too on high school and I don't have so much time. In these 3-6 years will join JJ2 around 20 players, but will leave around 60 players... JJ2 doesn't have long future, only we can hope in is that it will be active longest as is possible.

Uhm, I have to say that I wouldn't bury JJ2 just yet.

In 1999 the listervers went down and everybody was saying jj2 is dead. And to be sure, a HUGE chunk of people stopped playing. I stopped playing for a couple of months as well because I was sure the serverlist was down for good.

Then I open the game in August 1999 and the serverlist worked. Sure there were a lot less players but still. JJ2 survived.

We were sure it would die in a couple of years.

It's really quite amazing how many times jj2 has managed to stage a comeback. When I rejoined 2-3 years ago, the community was full of new people and that came as a complete surprise to me.

Nowadays there are fewer active players, but this community has seen way worse. So in that sense I'm pretty optimistic, because in spite of everybody trying to bury JJ2 ever since it was created in 1998, the game just keeps on rolling.

Don't worry, I'm not going to, nevertheless this is not a strong argument to adduce two and a half months after the release of the new JJ2+ - which actually entailed a lot of interesting implementations. No need to further elaborate them.

Deady, when I was your age it was like 2004. There already were way newer games than JJ2, like COD, for example.
And if someone comes up with a suggestion I suggest he says 'we should' and not 'you should', after all youre part of the community as well and you can do something yourself too.

If I remember correctly Unreal came out before JJ2emo

2d sidescrollers were already dead in 1998. yet somehow they've managed to survive till this dayemo

JJ2: May 2nd, 1998
Unreal: May 22nd, 1998

Which explains why JJ2 was less than half finished, I suppose emo

Ups, my bademo

Knew they were close.

And ya, it seems like Epic made jj2 as a srt of afterthought. Unreal launched them in the modern gaming world and they never looked back.

Maybe not really an afterthought, since they were making it since as early as 1995*, but yeah, they saw where the money is and ran. Can't blame them, given what they delivered!

Moved the comments to a forum thread.

Also, that's an interesting fact, cooba. I totally forgot about Unreal.

ya can't argue wit results.

Alto tbh their graphic engines are better than the games that they themselves produce IMO. Ok it's a matter of opinion, but storywise I much prefer Ubisoft and Bioware.

Since this has become a forum thread we might as well stay on topic now. Though, I think the fact that this thread is dominated by oldies says enough.

This still remains in my top 3 favorite games of all time! Maybe with a sponsored rework(fix rather said), the game could attract more players. Like talking to a small company or something, everybody donating 5$? I don't know.

A guy I knew from a certain Minecraft fansite played JJ1 and knew almost nothing about JJ2. Other than that, I don't think many people outside of this community play it.

It is quite normal to have some inactivity after a season of JDC ends. Ninety-seven (97) players earned points during the last JDC. Plus last year, 2012 contained three seasons of ladder, which seems a bit much.

Personally, I usually break from playing JJ during JDC itself, not to drown the spirit of competition but everyone could use a break.

Interesting question about JJ1. I have recently played the port of JJ1 to Windows Phone since I got a Nokia Lmumia a few weeks ago.

The port is fun and works well with touch screen controls. It only contains the first episode though. Anyway JJ1 for Windows Phone is being updated more to version 2.5, so I wonder how they will improve it. They say the game has over 100,000 downloads.
