After the new + update there are now messages in the middle of your screen. Not all of them though, as some are still in the bottom left.
I would like to know your opinion about how you think about having to figure out which messages are where, how it feels to read them both and if they block your view on things like bullets and ammo pickups.

I would actually prefer it on the upper part on the JJ2 screen, like 99% of the FPS games. Also I want a option to hide the spectate info while spectating because its bit annoying.
Fucked the signature.

3... / Game has been started
Game starts in 5... / 2...
4... / 1...
or:
Code:
Game starts in 5... / 2...
4... / 1...
3... / Game has been started
?
Personally I'm not going to look at a countdown message when the numbers aren't even in the correct order.
Also, I don't get why some in-game announcements are still made in chat? Captures show in chat, but roasts and flag losses and scores show in the announcement box. And the announcement box is also limited to 3 lines, or 3 messages at once. Therefore a large percentage of the info, probably would never even show up, because it can't show more than 3 lines at a time. Therefore some roast messages, flag losses, and scores, etc. wouldn't even ever be displayed?
Imho, countdown is out of order. Instead of:
[code]5
4
3
2
1[/code]
why would it show:
[code]3... / Game has been started
Game starts in 5... / 2...
4... / 1...[/code]
or:
[code]Game starts in 5... / 2...
4... / 1...
3... / Game has been started[/code]
?

I'm OK with them, rather love them actually. They remind me of Unreal Tournament that displayed Double Kills and Sprees the same way.
Then again, I'm not that competitive in JJ2.

I guess the advantage is if you only are on JJ2 to chat, it's more likely possible you can have a conversation in chat without random announcements about the game. Basically eliminating game announcements from chat allows more freedom to have a conversation in chat, or at least that's how I would imagine. Then it mitigates the gameplay itself; if you only want to chat, then you shouldn't have to be distracted by random in-game announcements.
Contrarily I think for actually playing online, I figure that I'd probably never actually try to play when I can't even see my character. Basically that's like watching TV when your TV is off. You could just read the labels of the buttons but it's no longer possible to watch a TV show, as it's off.

I don't really mind those announcements, but when I saw them the first time, I thought that they could be switched to the chat again by a command. That would be nice, especially since the game's resolution is tiny already.

I agree with Splat pointing out that there should be a certain consistency as to where in-game announcements are displayed. And yes, I feel they do block my view or at least distract me heavily while playing - but since some players don't seem to be bothered by them at all I'd favor an option that allows to switch back to the original display.

Hard to think of an argument why freedom to choose wouldn't be the best, then again, that held true for /cstop as well, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up

Yea but, the expectation that anyone should have to grant you freedom to choose, is also placing the unnecessary burden of work on others. Basically in other words, it might be true that it'd be better to have freedom to choose more options out of reasonably good and useful options, but - say for example, you want the option to have Arabic alphabet or Cryllic alphabet in the next plus patch; however it's too much work for the developers to do, so the counterpoint is that you have an unrealistic expectation that other people should do too much work. In a philosophical sense, in reality you should have freedom to choose from all naturally available options in the current realm, but you don't have freedom to choose to do something that's impossible, and you don't have freedom to choose what other people do; or basically, your freedom doesn't inherently interfere with other people's freedom. Essentially what I'm saying is: just give the plus-team the freedom to develop plus however they want to, and due to the common interest, the freedom of all parties involved will temporally increase, rather than having interference between the freedom to choose regarding multiple parties.
EDIT: Textual clarity level acknowledged. In response to criticism over my spelling of the word "Cryllic": spelling phonetically is inherently superior to spelling derivatively.

Agreed. We should let plus team do what they think is best. Although, we ALSO shouldn't keep them from going too far.
It's Cyrillic, btw.

There's virtually no reason to turn this thread into a spelling debate. But why would it be spelled Cyrillic if it's pronounced Cryllic? That's why I said that it's better to spell phonetically than derivatively.

AFAIK that's really not a good way to pronounce it. I thought that this is how it's pronounced: https://translate.google.com/#en/en/crylic. Basically the same as acrylic except without the "a-". But Idk for sure. Even if it's pronounced more like "sryllic" or "çryllic" Imo both of those would be more appropriate. Actually the "cy-" sound is like this in English: https://translate.google.com/#en/en/cyprus. Regardless this is yet another truly pointless argument, which ultimately doesn't contribute to the original message of the thread, nor accomplish any other certain purpose. BTW, to play the audio in Google Translate click the audio volume icon. TBH IDC, I don't rly study English anymore. Anyway I guess this might be even another alternative if possible: https://translate.google.com/#en/en/cyryllic. But ok, at this point it would be better to have a new thread about this subject. But seriously, it's essentially a glitch to have "cy-" pronounced like this: https://translate.google.com/#en/en/sryllic, at least that's only my opinion. Actually as a matter of fact, the only difference between that link and this link: https://translate.google.com/#en/en/cyrillic is the pitch of the intonations of the word(s). Which would be, truly only a musical discrepancy and not a communicative difference. Obtrusively, in those Google Translate links, the "sry-" spelling uses the major 3rd, perfect 4th and root notes on each syllable in that order, whereas the "cyri-" spelling uses the root, major 3rd and root again. On the Youtube link you posted JJ, it's the major 3rd, perfect 4th and root notes in the same order as the "sry-" link on Google Translate, except the Youtube one is just transposed up by an interval of a minor 3rd.

Yeah i dislike these messages too. for example when u have flag, u die and u kill someone too. there is 3 messages in middle of the screen and for first moment u have no idea what happened, its rly disturbing when playing small, fast maps. Also new plus made new bugs, I know u trying to do ur best with new releases but many things what u added are not needed. Its like few ppl rules whole jj2 and u can do nothing mby just play SP or host ur own server...

At least it's better than when there was no listserver for JJ2 at all, the only way to join any server was if you had the other person's IP address, and actually to look up your own IP address was basically about as difficult as uranium mining. Which was basically the case before plus even started.
And you can still get 4.3 anyway. It's not like now that 5.0 is released it's everyone's fate to have only 5.0; I know some of the oldest versions of plus are missing or AFK but most recent versions are at http://www.moddb.com/mods/jazz-jackrabbit-2-plus/downloads. I mean I doubt you can get 1.22 nowadays but it's just highly unlikely anyone would ever want that in reality.

This setting "NoBigEchoes=True" is alleviating the concern of the thread which is a genuine question, thus letting the question remain unanswered is worse than reviving the thread. Absolutely no need to "disactivate this whole topic" for the sole reason it's been 5 years, just add it to the plus readme and there wouldn't be this issue initially. The thread on the forum is not the cause of concern in this scenario, the "middle of the screen messages" are the concurrent issue. There is not enough posts on this forum to justify arguing over thread revivals.
