The mappool changes that Vivando, Ragnarok, Laro and I have decided on are:
- Galactic Warfare, Distopia and Jungle's Edge have been removed for the duration of the next season as they were the most played maps.
- Wicked Wood and Epitome return, as they were only removed for the duration of the last season.
- Zaitox (too slow, which breaks the balance in ladder matches), Security Breach v2 (campy and rarely picked) and Waterfall Caves (broken and unpopular) have been removed from the mappool
- Triglet and Dusk have had minor updates
- The Astrolabe, Hall of the Mountain King, Nightwalker and Scrapyard have been added
In addition, we would like to ask you to fill in these polls to determine whether This Level Is Untitled, Minimal Duel, Los Pollos Hermanos and Ancient Museum should be added:

May as well ask here:
I designed Sacrosanct as essentially the definite anti-mappool level. However I've since heard from some people that with some changes, it would be a fairly playable level, and I've been itching to do a v2 for a long time (I did the majority of the level a few hours before the deadline, and it shows).
What does everybody think? What else should I change? |

The #1 contentious thing is probably the bottom spring on a wheel - I'll be changing it to always bring the player to the base. |

Basing this contest on jj.net is not an evil conspiracy against J2o and JCF. The admins should correct me if I'm wrong, but I can think of the following reasons:
1) it's a clan ladder mappool contest, so it's perfectly logical to have it on the clan ladder site first (as far as I know the admins have also posted it on JCF by now as well)
2) jj.net IS frequently visited by active players and the levelmakers among them, so announcing the contest here ensures that active players get informed of it quite early
3) while most of the people from JCF do visit jj.net, people from jj.net rarely drop by JCF (see 2), therefore the J2o/JCF-based levelmakers would be informed of it anyway while the active player levelmakers from jj.net wouldn't (and I'd say they're very important for this contest)
4) the purpose of the contest is to add something new to the mappool, not just fill it up with three more levels made by people who already have a few in the existing mappool. That doesn't mean the crew wouldn't want experienced J2o/JCF-based levelmakers to compete or that the crew thinks their levels are bad, but a chance should be given to people who visit jj.net and play the game as well to get their new levels in |

This time, however, we are holding a contest where brand new levels can make it into the mappool. The best three maps (supposing there are three that meet our quality-standards) as selected by the admins will be added to the mappool on a temporary basis for the next season. As the season progresses, when a clan reaches 50 points, a vote will be held to determine whether those maps are to be kept in or removed from the mappool.
What are we looking for? Mostly the same things as in most level making contests.
These are the rules :
-We are looking for CTF levels (a contest for the multi-ladder might well be held at another time)
-The level must be playable in 1.23. (If you are going to convert the level from 1.24 afterwards, make sure you pick a tileset that works in 1.23 too.)
-Only new levels will be accepted. Edits of existing levels will not. If a level was started/finished before this contest began, it can however be entered if it was never officially published before.
-Only one entry per person. Collaborations are allowed, but they will count as a whole entry for each collaborator. This is meant to encourage people to focus all their effort on one level, rather than rush many. Quality over quantity.
-As long as the contest stays open, you are allowed to edit/fix/remake your entry as much as you want even after you have submitted it.
-Upload your level to Jazz2Online once you are finished, in order to make it easily available to everyone. Prefix the upload name with [JJnetS8].
Aside from the rules, there are some additional guidelines (if you don’t follow them you’re not likely to get very far):
-The level should be playable in both 2on2 and 3on3.
-The level should have at least decent eyecandy as usual. Most importantly there should be no distracting visual decorations.
-The level should be balanced. You do not need to make the level 100% symmetrical, but try to keep no team significantly advantaged over the other.
-All characters should be playable in the level (Lori too.) Flow differences between characters do not matter, but all characters should be able to reach all objects at least without needing to use tricks like walljumps.
-Try to make the level spacious enough so that there is room for players to dodge bullets for example, but still not too open, as that will increase "lag-dependency", e.g. lots of long linear paths where players usually get "airhit" from afar (especially if the level contains a lot of seekers, thus avoid the use of Seeker Powerup.)
-For the same reason, add some slightly safer areas so that people have somewhere to hide for a second after they get airhits. However, don't let the level become a campfest. Try to design base areas with thought.
-Originality is a nice bonus, but we are not looking for full gimmick-levels. Use of AngelScript is allowed, but again, try to not draw the gameplay too far from classic CTF.
You have exactly two weeks starting now on to finish and upload your entry. The contest will close on August 22.

Ok, i still am not expecting to play this season since i dont have jj2 and am not on a team. I havent tried the new plus, either. But i am a proponent of fireball default, pepper allowed. If only based on the idea that fireball is like jj1 toaster, which gets priority over blaster because the sprite has more pixels of height. I could be wrong, tho. |

All the feedback considered, I was going to ask you (since this is probably the best place to ask, right now) all: "How does everyone feel about upgrading the powered up fireball's speed and range?" But that may be a bit of a double edged sword, with Distopia and AYB benefitting from this change and WW (potentially) suffering from it.
Therefore, have another question: How does everyone feel about a setting where the Fireball PU would only act as a 50 ammo box?

I wouldn't mind either, though I'd prefer if the powered up fireball dealt 2 damage. It's all a matter of adapting to the changes; as Ragnarok said, it would show the value of "good" players, because it also takes skill to adapt to changes. |

I hope they will make 2 more characters, one will have copter ears, double jump, side kick and upper cut, and another one will have all that plus some faster movement but slower falling - to keep everything balanced. Then you could try to change colors of notification text, make new gun what replaces TNT PU, and then after all, make invisible C, hidden somewhere in levels, visible only in JCS, so you have to learn a level by using JCS. Maybe changing shortcuts for ammo from numbers to letters.

i like fireball mostly because its something new. peppers kinda sucked, kinda. kinda kinda. kinda. actually i mean, it wasnt used quite often. i find fireball cooler. it isnt that dangerous gun anyway. i think fireball will bring something new to jazz jackrabbit 2 the secret files, jazz jackrabbit 2. games arent going to look that uniformly as they used to, at least in the immediate future. i dont like how dontyouwantmebabyCC kvetches about a gun. why cant he just get used to it? why doesnt he want to feel the new taste of levels gameplay? especially that its not that much special??? i do not understand. i do not. i dont. fireball asks toni: dont you want me baby?

Personally i find fireball gun to be much more useful than pepper. I mean lets be honest, when someone asks "how many pu's are there in disto" 90% of people would say "2". i dont think it will be sucha drastic change (eventho it is a big change) since its not really that powerfull ammo (i was actually smart enough to notice its limited blaster). What i didnt notice,untill rag told me ofc, is that non pu shoots faster than pu. Well anywaysi dont think its a bad idea, as toni claims it to be, its not that powerfull powerup, it just can provide newcomers a little more chance of winning due to their random placements. In ayb its a bit unlikely that you will go up:
1. getting seek pu is a wiser decision in most cases(even tho,unless you time it, you're unlikely to get seeks either.. especially in 3 vs 3)
2. In a small map like ayb, you're bound to be forced to get r once you spawned
3. you can get seekers while going r since the bottom path is the shortest one
4. Even if you decide to go up, there will be (very likely) someone at the top spamming ammo at the slow spawning C and will randomly take RF (happens very often)
i speak from 2 vs 2 and (mostly) 3 vs 3 expirience, i have no idea how duels work there.
Not to mention ayb is slowly becoming completely "unplayed"
As for ww well, with 3 strong powerups like seeks bnc and toast (each plays a very important role in certain areas) its highly unlikely for it to make a big difference especially since its like having a limited "blaster pu". I'd use this powerup when going r, its a nice way to pwn players being S if you're na, or if w8ting for other powerups. I dont see any other use of it atm, but i havent even yet had a chance to properly play with it.
in disto i do kinda agree il miss pepper a bit since i always picked more pepper than RF, becuz theyr placed exactly in the running paths so its a nice way to pwn ppl while chasing at the top. Still adding a 3rd pu there could prove very usefull.
Finally, this is all spoken in theory,as i've said, i havent yet put any of this into practise. I guess a few games have to be played first before saying anything for certain. But i do know this. Pepper was barely used, and in most lvls some consider it a nuisance becuz when you pick it up it changes to it and it messes up your hunting (i think there's a program that disables ammo changing?i remmber dz sending it once to me but didnt work properly or something..) i saw a lot of people complain about it "fucking gun8" (mostly saw in JE) |
