Furthermore, im not here to waste grytolle or zeal's time making webpages for JJnet.
But it would be possible to add your box score readings to the top left area of the main page, just take down the download link to JJ2 and post a frame above it including wktk's page .
İ think that JJnet might use port ~404 for browsing the main site via http protocol.
Why? What's wrong with the default HTTP port (80)?
KRSplatinum wrote:

Cookies are a part of the HTTP protocol and are sent through the same port as the HTTP server. JJnet has cookies used for storing the PHP session ID as well as your account login details if you use the "remember me" function.

What? JJ2 has no "command line" or whatever you are talking about.
KRSplatinum wrote:
Hopefully, 401 is for the İP address or URL, 402 is for JJ2 to WWW, 403 is 2-way and 404 is for WWW to JJ2.
This doesn't make any sense.

There are two lists, one is hosted by Nimrod and the other by Camel.

What. Do you even know what you're saying?
KRSplatinum wrote:

Even if this doesn't seem to make any sense, there is a total of 128 MIDI notes, while ASCII allows a total of 256 different characters. JJ2 already uses ASCII.

I'll guess I'll wait some more for you to repost your question, then.
Sorry, what question do you mean? If it is about the jj2plus devteam, I'm gonna post that today over at JCF. Edit: posted.

A similar feature could ofc be useful for JDC
Yes, this shouldn't be that hard to code. We need to think about security though, we wouldn't want some spammer to create an acc here, log in on it @ jj2 and start spamming new matches to the site.
I'll ask them if I can make that functionality some time, though I feel like working on a prototype by myself first... The connection with JJ.net is a great idea, I was already planning that in my remake of jj2 but as you know it never got finished...
I have a lot of homework this weekend, but I should at least get those special chars done...
You could just join the + team and add it yourself. Making it possible to sign into your jjnet account when youre about to play a ladder would be cool too and automatically submitting the scores/stats after each round.
On another note, pls fix how spëciäl characters are treated in comments and match descriptions! Me and Loon lost the pimpedness of our nicks in the stats of our last ladder :c
For the recording of replays I would need to have access to JJ2's (server-side) data. There are roughly 2 approaches for this:
- Let jj2+ save it, it already has access to all the data needed.
- Use injection or read jj2's memory from the outside.
The second approach seems the best here, because the first would require me to rely a lot on the jj2+ team, and I'm sure they have other priorities (+ real lives as well).
I think I'd need a small program that records it server-side (CD has linux & wine I guess), and then just a player in html5 or WebGL. Could work, but will take some time....
Still jj.net will be awesome if you can just view played ladders back...
With a handheld version, do you mean targeted at mobile phones or just a small lil' site?
I'll check out the subscribe functionality when I have some free time, probably this weekend.
As for the chatlogs, I'll see what I can do. I actually have an unfinished project lying around for server-side saving of replays, but I never had the time to finish it when college kicked in....
It would be awesome if the camel servers could generate and save replay files, and jj.net would have an in-browser player for those. It's possible and I know how to do it, only it would require quite some investment of time so I'd have to find a holiday to do it... Guess I'll fix the chatlog-based generating first.
That's a good idea! You can also try to repair the script that generates stuff based on chatlogs... I lost the database structure by mistake and the install file wasn't properly updated. Therefore a couple of columns are even less functional than before.. :c
As to the initial topic, perhaps you could turn that into a tiny handheld version of the website, doing the same thing with latest forum posts and perhaps another few useful links
Yeah, It seems a bit to big for a box on the side/top. I had fun making it though, so I won't be that sad if it'll not get used. Just know it is there, for if you ever need such a thing.
Is there anything the site could use atm? I looked at most stuff in the topic (the one in the crew forum) and most is either done or doesn't seem that relevant anymore. Maybe the subscribe to topic function...
Hey fellow jj2 players, I have a suggestion for the rules system of the ladder system and/or the site. Go to the homepage. Now look at the right of this site. WOW. That's a lot of clans, isn't it? Is jj2 still that popular? I wish it was, but the hard reality is that randomers create clans at, well, random and then proceed to leave it, or sit around and do nothing. In the past I have already purged the list of those clans once, but in no time it was filled with junk again. I think we can solve this, and would like your input for it.
I have some ideas how it can be prevented, feel free to post your own ideas or discuss.
Idea 1 - Require activity
Members need to be registered at least 1/3/6/whatever months to make a clan, or maybe have >some number of posts. Clans that are without people for longer than a week will be made inactive automagically.
Idea 2 - Require approval
My favored idea, we start another board on the forums and require each clan or wannabe clan to make a thread there, explaining who will be in the clan, who the leader is, how they intend to ladder, etc. The jj.net admins/mods/etc can vote/discuss whether to approve the clan. After approval, the thread can be used for requiting, public announcements, planning CW, etc.
I like the last method because there are hardly any borderline cases, it's either a laddering professional clan (CX, CC, CDF, etc.) or crap like all those smiley clans (except 8D but it's dead) or funny words/tagspam.
Well, gradients are generally something to avoid unless you know damn well what you're doing, most professional sites these days prefer to go for a cleaner look. The days of Web 2.0 are long gone, now it's all about Flatness.
I have nothing against changing it. Do whatever you want if you think it's gonna be good. I can give you PSD files, and I am sure I sent it to someone, just can't remember who was it. I will send you PM later.
cooba, they might be noobish, but I was experimenting with this. It looks weird without bevels and emboss, and gradients gives more life to this. Everyone has different opinion, and yours is fine too. Just tell me why didn't you complain about gradients and bevels on this site layout This layout has blue gradient and boxes look like they have bevel.
Can you remove the noob as hell gradients and bevels while you're on it?
Yeah, all those gradients, glows and bevels will just lead to small images everywhere instead of just code, which in turn leads to lag longer loading times. Still, I do not want to run over Toni's skin that much... hmm...
EDIT:
Also, what about browser compatibility? Supporting IE versions under 8 is gonna be a bitch...
Anyone still uses IE7 or lower? Any chance of convincing you to use a decent standards compliant browser?
Toni, could you PM me the PSD's of the new site? Might work on it casually when I have some spare time left.
Edit:
Also would you mind if I change the design a bit to make it liquid? As in, make it scale based on users screens? not everyone has a monitor wider than 1600 pixels
Toni, you are right and my apologies for not living up to my promises. It was a busy time for me, with me trying to make my own jj2, a better site and also doing college at the same time. I was just taking on to much work, not taking into account the time each think would take.
Now I'm doing things step by step, which unfortunatly means I don't have that much time for the site and jj2 in general while college is going on.
Like you already said, if anyone wants to do this or help doing this, post here and I'm sure gry for example can set you up! Beware though, this site's code makes digging though jumps in ASM seem like childs play xd
Those aren't a joke, and I know I lack the time to implement them on my own, especially with my university having exams in 1.5 weeks and me moving away to live on my own afterwards.
You wouldn't want me to implement half of it, then grow busy and leave you for months with a half-working site :p
I still dig the color-scheme tho, and if I find my self with a lot of time I will try my hand at implementing them.
Never wanted you to start it and not finish, but you promised me you could start them (behind the scenes as you said) during the winter. Winter passed, you didn't tell me anything, and this thread just reminded me of this new layout. I understand you have no free time, and that you are busy. I am not in hurry, I made this to practice, and I think this layout looks good. At least for me.
Btw, if there's anyone who knows how to implement this, say here.
Nah, I lacked time and at first I decided to stall it until the holidays, however then BlurredD released the jj2+ source code.
With that code out, and a large group of people who know the game and community working on it, it can grow faster than my project could with my life being busy as it is.
So yeah, I'm kinda sad because I really wanted to improve this game and gain experience from it, but with my current schedule I just don't want to promise things I can't code in time.
Like I said in smalltext in my post above yours, I might work on the site in the holidays, but no promise, I have exams, and will move soon.
Also I am developing/designing an Augmented-reality Table, which will hopefully replace desktop PC's for a lot of common tasks. Oh, dreams :p
Still I haven't forgotten jj2, it's still on my favorite games list and if I ever find time I will try to contribute something useful to this community. It's small, but fun.

You might have not noticed it because of the fast comment roasting skills of our moderator Lithium, but a Chinese spammer-bot script just tried to turn the site into a marketplace for Authentic (ye right) Rolex watches.
Upon inspecting the database, I found multiple accounts made from the IP 60.169.78.172, all with emails like [email protected] I removed their abillity to comment, however, this brings me to my question:
Should jazzjackrabbit.net have an IP-based filter, that blocks certain ranges from making accounts here?
For example a Bot named HUANG tries to register an account here, however his ip is 60.169.78.*, so he is friendly told to leave.
What are your (the community/userbase) thoughts on this?

Introduction
BBCode is a set of rules which enables users to give their text a markup using easy to type tags.
In other words, you use it to style your forum posts.
Jazzjackrabbit.net uses BBCode as well in it's forum. This guide is provided by me to ensure users get the optimal experience out of the forum.
When I became webmaster and gained access to the code I noticed jj.net supported a lot of BBCode tags that I didn't knew. I have contriuted a few of myself as well.
This thread is meant as both a reference to the currently supported BBCode and as a place for you, the forum users, to suggest new tags or changes to existing ones.
Also questions concerning format and use of BBCodes can be asked here.
A list is mantained at the bottom of this post containing the tags we (the jj.net staff, mostly me as webmaster) plan on adding.
Mods/Admins, feel free to edit stuff in this post in order to keep the information correct and actual. However, if you change anything major (not a typo or grammar) please leave an entry in the Recent changes section above this description.
Reference:
First will be the BBCode compilant to the BBCode standards.
what about when im verifying or submitting a match, when i click verify/submit, it just logs me off saying that im "not allowed to verify/submit ladder matches

The popups on ladder pages already have arrows, in the title bar. Though a click-to-go-to-next option will be added.
The login incorrect error is because some script somewhere still seems to use the old unsafe way of storing passwords, and doesn't accept my decrypted version. I'll try to fix that today, after school.
I would like to see this: when I click anywhere on image on screen preview, I would like to change to another image, not to close the image. Also, when I click outside the image window, I would like the image to close (like its now). Just like on fb.
It still logs me off whenever I try to submit a match the first time.. Second time it works. Any idea what's up with that?
Krytical wrote:
That happened to me too some weeks ago.Not its fixed tho.
Could be an old session lingering, try logging out, then logging in with "remember me" checked... tbh I looked at the code and saw nothing

Plus mby check kenny's account he says he can't submit matches and he uses it as a convenient excuse so that I have to do it!!!
(j/k don't check the last one, but the double submitting is annoying 4 real)
How exactly is kenny prevented from submitting? Does the site say he can't submit, or does it simply fail / log himout? The only remarkable thing in the code there is a hard-block for the monsterV clan

Oh btw, mby making an option of sending the same message to more people in the clan at once would also be nice
Done, I added both a BCC option and an option to send a message to all members in one of your clans.

The site now writes a copy of a PM into another table, so that senders can chose when to delete it. Updated viewing of sent messages to allow for deleting this copy.
